The Mysterious Armpit Tattoo

One tattoo location that has intrigued me no end is the armpit. I personally would not want to get inked in that area.This is why when I saw reality star Kat Von D‘s armpit tattoo, my jaw just dropped. Her tattoo featured her ex fiance, Jesse James’ grade school picture.

It is not really what can be described as an impressive design compared to the fabulous tattoo designs available through both TATTOO ME NOW! and Chopper Tattoo. However, it professes her affection for him, at least, during one particular phase of her love life.

The armpit tattoo shows the face of Jesse James, then a preteen, with long hair and a big smiling face. Von D says that the photo has a special meaning to both her and ex boyfriend Jesse James. “He had a rough childhood, so to see what he’s become from there, it’s just amazing,” she explained.

Kat Von D further stated that the “picture of him as a child”, was selected “to capture that certain innocence. The tattoo is a way of him recognizing somebody loves him.”

Hmm..sure sounds like her ex fiance never received an iota of love as a child. The tattoo artist did a good job in replicating the old photograph in tattoo form.

This convinces me that whoever he or she may be, this artist will be able to create faithful reproduction of the attractive designs accessible from popular tattoo design shops like TATTOO ME NOW! and of course Chopper Tattoo.

In my opinion, Kat Von D made the right decision in not trying to have the Jesse James tattoo removed. Having it erased or altered will in no way change the fact that at one point in their lives, they were lovers.

This is one truth they can neither change nor deny. Besides, the tattoo is not readily visible. Unless Kat Von D flashes it by raising her arm, the armpit tattoo cannot be seen.

Everybody knows that nothing in this world lasts forever. This is especially true of emotions. Love and desire can permeate one’s soul, but the intensity wanes over time.

Sure, people can profess their undying devotion for someone without hesitation. They can swear to high heavens that their affection will last forever. Words, however, are easier said than done.

History keeps repeating itself in this regard. Hearts are broken. Lives are shattered. Romance sours like a sweaty, stinky armpit. Such is the reality of what we call life.

Death strikes all too suddenly. Amy’s death at such a young age of 27 only leaves the world shaking its head in disbelief. She was so young, so talented. She was at the prime of her life.

How can a Grammy Award winner of immense talent; a blue blooded Tattoo enthusiast; a magnificent singer-songwriter known for her powerful deep contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul and jazz, die just like that? It just seems so unfair.

Her musical exploits are legendary. Her 2006 album, Back to Black brought her six Grammy Award nominations. She won five of those nominations, tying the existing record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night.  The remarkable feat made Amy Winehouse the first British female to win five Grammys. Her success did not stop there.

She was able to achieve success that other people will never achieve even in several lifetimes. She has had her struggles too. Drugs, alcohol abuse, violence and her self-destructive behavior were the nemeses that constantly plagued her.

Her untimely demise forces one to think about life, its meaning, and about death. What is it all about really? Why are we here? What is our purpose?

One can only hope that the everlasting peace, love and joy that Amy did not find on Earth, she has finally found wherever she may be. Rest in peace, Amy. You may have died, but you will never be forgotten.
